Few things make agency owners more nervous than the thought of “networking”.
For most of us, the word conjures up the image of standing in hotel meeting rooms sipping lukewarm coffee making small talk with strangers.
Not my idea of fun, or a productive activity, yet networking is so important to agency new business lead generation. STANDOUT agency owners simply can’t avoid it completely.
If you want to improve your networking, follow these simple tips:
– Do more of it. Yep, that’s right. Like anything else, the more you do, the easier it gets.
– Find a target audience. It’s far more motivating to be networking with people you want to work with, than it is playing the numbers game in a room full of random people.
– Go on your own. Don’t take anybody else to in person networking events. As scary as it might be to go it alone, you’ll not be tempted by the comfort of chatting with your colleague.
– Start small and don’t expect too much. The chances of you leaving a networking event with a lead or business opportunity are slim. The purpose is to create connections first. Leads and deals will come later.
– Remember, networking is not always about in person events. Growing and working your network online through social media is as rewarding and easier for many people than live events.
